Wedding vendor tip calculator: add up every tip and envelope
List the vendors you plan to tip. For each one, choose a percentage of the bill, an amount per person or one amount, and see every tip, the total to bring and any gratuity already in a contract.
How do you work out wedding vendor tips?
Start from your contracts, since a gratuity or service charge may already be included. For each vendor you decide to tip, multiply the bill by your percentage, multiply an amount by the number of people, or set one amount. Add the tips for the total to bring, and give each envelope to the person handing them out.
Your entries are kept in this browser so they are here when you come back. Clear entries removes them from this browser. They are not uploaded unless you add them to your planner. This calculator uses USD and suggests no amount: the tips are the ones you enter.
The calculation, in plain sight
- A percentage tip = your percentage × the bill you enter, rounded once to the nearest cent.
- A per-person tip = your amount × the number of people.
- One amount = the amount you enter.
- Total tips = the tips for every row you filled in. A gratuity already in a contract is listed on its own and not added to the total.
How this is calculated, beside the other free tools
Illustrative example — not a customer result
For the labeled example, take three invented rows: $40 each for 8 catering staff is $320, 10% of a $2,000 DJ bill is $200, and one amount of $100 for hair and makeup. The tips total $620. These show the arithmetic only, not what to tip.
Where this model stops
The calculator adds up the tips you enter. It does not say whom to tip, how much, or whether a contract’s gratuity or service charge already covers a tip; ask each vendor in writing what those lines cover. It does not handle tax on a tip or split one tip between people.
To check the service charge on a catering or venue bill, use the service charge calculator. The result is arithmetic on your inputs.
Common questions
How much should I tip my wedding vendors?
That is your decision, and this calculator does not suggest an amount. Check each contract first: a gratuity or service charge may already be in it. Then enter the tips you choose, as a percentage of a bill, an amount per person or one amount, and the calculator adds them up.
Is a service charge the same as a tip?
Not necessarily. A service charge is a fee set by the contract, and its name alone does not tell you whether any of it is paid to staff. Ask the vendor in writing what it covers. Enter it beside the tip so you can see both before deciding.
How do I calculate a tip as a percentage of a vendor’s bill?
Multiply the bill by the percentage you choose. Decide which bill you mean, such as the amount before or after tax and fees, and enter that amount. The calculator rounds the tip once, to the nearest cent.
How do I plan cash envelopes for the wedding day?
Add a row for each vendor you plan to tip, then download the list. It names each vendor, how the tip was worked out and the amount, so whoever hands out the envelopes has one sheet to follow.
Do the example figures show what to tip?
No. The example figures are invented to show the arithmetic, not a recommendation or research about what anyone tips. Replace them with your own decisions.
